COVID RAPID RESPONSE GRANT RECIPIENT – The Women’s Safety Service, Northern Adelaide Domestic Violence Service SA (NADVS):

Foundation Barossa has recently awarded the Rapid Response grants to respond to the evolving needs due to the pandemic in our region. One grant has gone to NADVS , a community based, not for profit organisation providing support and assistance to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence, in the Barossa and surrounds.

The COVID-19 Rapid Response grant will allow the purchase of two laptops to be available to their clients that are working from home or homeschooling during the pandemic. They usually have face to face contact and women can come into their Interview room and be able to use the computer. Due to the COVID restrictions they have been unable to come over to use the computer. Children will be able to do homework and clients have a means of looking for private rental properties to find the dream home to start their lives afresh.

Congratulations to the Women’s Safety Service and thank you for all the work you do.

Another of our recent grant recipients was the Angaston Community & Business Alliance. They will be setting up the T-ANGO (Talk ANGO) table. A community table (in a central outdoor space moving to rotations within local businesses as restrictions lift). The purpose of this table is for people to meet to discuss a series of BIG picture questions relating to the COVID response and recovery in our local community.

Stay tuned for more on this initiative, using collective brainpower and community engagement to work on recovery options for our local community.

With social distancing rules limiting indoor activities, there’s never been a better time to explore local bushwalking trails.

Ellie Neindorf is launching a map and website to showcase bushwalking trails across the Barossa region.

The launch of the map is thanks to a grant from the Peter Lehmann Arts and Education Trust (PLAET).

The PLAET grant has allowed Ellie to complete the brochure and website and these resources will be free for the community and visitors, giving everyone access to this element of the Barossa’s beauty.

The map will be available from the Barossa Visitor Information Centre or can be downloaded from bushwalking trails of the Barossa website www.barossabushwalks.com

Another thank you to some of the quiet heroes at this time, this time to the amazing team at Beam Internet. As you may know, we have been asking for donations of second-hand laptops for some of our students that need to study from home but do not have access to a computer.

Beam Internet have offered to donate their time to clean the hard drives of donated computers and give them the once over (not a technical term..) to ensure they all work.

A big thank you also to everyone who has already donated a laptop. These will make a real difference to some children that really need the support.

If you have a laptop you are able to donate please can you email Annabelle on info@foundationbarossa.org.au to arrange pick-up/drop off.

Barossa really is a community that looks after each other. Thank you so much.

Students at the Nuriootpa Flexible Learning Centre are in urgent need of secondhand laptops so they are able to socially isolate and study from home.

The Flexible Learning Centre provides “an inclusive learning space where young people are engaged in their education, their well-being and are connected to their local community. We provide a holistic approach to tailor individual learning plans for students in order for them to achieve their SACE, gain nationally accredited qualifications, school-based apprenticeships, traineeships and/or employment.”

We are looking to find 10 old unused laptops which would allow these students to continue with their studies.  Laptops can be any format (windows/mac) and any size. They will be ‘cleaned’ of data and prepared for use by Beam Internet.

If you are able to donate an old unused laptop, please contact Annabelle on info@foundationbarossa.org.au.

Foundation Barossa BUILD Business Coaching Scholarships

Are you a small business in the Barossa region?

Would you benefit from four months of business coaching and mentorship?

Do you need support to develop the sustainability of your business and ensure its capacity to grow?

Our BUILD small business scholarships offer three four-month scholarships through Next Level Up Business Coaching and Mentoring.

Each scholarship is valued at $8,000.

By promoting education and encouraging achievement, we’re investing in the long-term health and resilience of the community.

BUILD logoWhy apply for a BUILD scholarship?

Most small business owners dream of a time when the thing they’re creating will give them freedom. Financial freedom and the freedom to fulfil the rest of their dreams.

The program is designed to support established businesses with 3-19 staff. These scholarships provide practical and accessible business coaching and mentoring. They’ll address the issues that typically constrain small businesses and slow their growth.

The program will address:

  • structure for growth, management, leadership and staff accountability;
  • development of systems that free the owner up to focus on the higher-level work
  • strategies to deal with pressures of time, people and money.

This is a great opportunity for pro-active business owners to look at their business objectively.

What’s working. What’s not working? What are its strengths and weaknesses? What needs to be tweaked, created or improved?

Learn skills to turn your business into something that serves your life, instead of the other way around.

What is your commitment to the scholarship?

If you are a recipient of a scholarship, you commit to:

  • An initial half-day meeting with your coach (this may be face-to-face or virtual).
  • Attending a weekly 75-minute coaching and mentoring session via videoconference on Tuesday afternoons between May-August. Three sessions will be with your coach and one session with the other scholarship recipients.
  • Completing weekly assignments (approximately two hours work).
  • Pay $120 materials and licensing fee.

The Coaching Program

The program starts with an introductory meeting to present the key principles and set out the path.

A starting point will be established for each business in several key areas using a baseline rating process. This process will be applied at the end so each business owner can assess and measure their own progress.

Each business owner will have their own private dedicated online workspace. You can download teaching materials and upload completed work for individual feedback.

Recipients will have their own private Facebook page for communications and support between each other and their coach. They’ll be able to post questions, comments and wins.

Each recipient will have a one-on-one coaching session in the first three weeks with their coach. There will also be opportunities for support to address specific issues.

At the end of the program, Foundation Barossa will invite each recipient to present to RDA Barossa and other businesses.

Timelines & Applications

Applications open on 1 April and close on 17 April 2020.

Apply Online

Applicants must be available between 20-22 April for a 30-minute phone call to shortlist potential recipients.

While all business is being impacted by COVID-19, these scholarships are focused on long-term business growth. If you’re needing support for your business due to the impacts of COVID-19, we recommend you consult with your accountant or financial advisor.

People in Barossa are generous. We’re a community that looks after its own.

The impact of COVID-19 has been both sudden and significant. Service providers across the region tell us that there are many people struggling. There are individuals and families unable to put any food on the table due to the sudden loss of employment and closure of businesses.

We need your help to provide immediate support.

Donations go directly to providing vouchers for emergency food supplies for quick distribution within the Barossa region.

Your donation means we can provide a $50 voucher to Barossans who are struggling to afford basic meals for the weeks ahead.

This is a very real and immediate need.

Any donation you can make will make a big difference. Thank you.

THIS APPEAL IS NOW CLOSED – THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

All online donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
