Foundation Barossa’s Community Grants program opens on 19 July 2019.  Grants are available up to $5,000 for projects that benefit the wider Barossa community in the areas of Community Development, Heritage and Environment.

Last year Community Grants went to charities such as ‘Backpacks for SA Kids’. This organisation assists over 3,000 South Australian children every year by putting together backpacks containing items to give to children who, through no fault of their own, have been put in the situation of having to leave home and have no possessions to call their own.

The backpacks provided help to relieve some of the stress and anxiety children face when they are removed from their family, often in traumatic situations and without the opportunity to take any personal belongings with them as a result of neglect, abuse or family violence.

“Backpacks 4 SA Kids was lucky enough to receive $1500 from Foundation Barossa in 2018. “said Rachael Zaltron, Founder Backpacks 4 SA Kids. “These funds helped us supply 30 full backpacks for children who have had to leave in emergency circumstances.  Often these kids leave with just the clothes on their backs, to be able to give them something that is just theirs, that no one can take away from them allows them a small piece of control in an often traumatic and ever changing environment”.

Grants are available to organisations with charitable status with Item 1 DGR status and tax concession charity status (preferred but not essential) for projects that benefit the wider Barossa community.
