This week a new Arts and Educational Trust to be named in honour of the late Peter Lehmann was launched at a lunch hosted by Mrs Margaret Lehmann and Mr David Thomas, OAM, of The Thomas Foundation.
The Peter Lehmann Arts and Educational Trust will start with funding of $200,000 from the Lehmann Hess Foundation funds.
Making the announcement, Mrs Lehmann said, “The intention of the Trust is to encourage, nurture and sustain the Barossa’s cultural identity. Lehmann Hess decided that Foundation Barossa is the most appropriate guardian for these funds.”

Keynote speaker at the lunch, David Thomas, who, through his own philanthropic foundation, has been a huge supporter of Foundation Barossa, then made a surprise announcement, offering another $250,000 to the Trust with a challenge to the Barossa to match it over the next two years.
The 180 strong enthusiastic audience, with encouragement from MC, Peter Sawrey, then pledged a further $ 39171 towards meeting that challenge.
Anita Bowen, Chair of Foundation Barossa said she is overjoyed and overwhelmed at the response to the announcement.
“This is such a landmark for our organisation and a Trust such as this is so important to the Barossa and our way of life.
“Our target for this fund is $750,000 and in one day, we are, in effect, more than halfway there with in excess of $500,000 already raised. It’s an amazing expression of confidence and Barossa generosity,” she said.
