Who does the Concordis Traineeship assist?
It is the aim of the Concordis Traineeship to provide financial support for high school students and young adults who may otherwise be prevented from considering tertiary education in the Wine Industry because of financial disadvantage.
The Concordis Traineeship is for a two year period and provides up to $5,000 per year towards a student’s TAFE study expenses. It also involves paid work traineeship and mentoring through Barossa based wineries during the student’s course.
At any one time, the Concordis Traineeship is assisting at least 2 local young people undertaking a wine industry traineeship.
What is the Concordis Traineeship?
In 2015 with the objective to give back to the region that has been so supportive, four successful Barossa Valley winemakers partnered together with Foundation Barossa to create Concordis.
CONCORDIS is a collaborative winemaking project that sees Kaesler Wines, Seppeltsfield Winery, Torbreck Vintners, and Two Hands Wines combine one tonne of their finest Shiraz grapes each year to create a unique cuvée. All proceeds go to a perpetual education fund through Foundation Barossa, which then provide ongoing financial support for wine industry training opportunities for financially disadvantaged, local young people.
With 1600 magnums to be made annually, with the first cuvée from 2014, the project aims to raise over $700,000 over the initial four years, which will finance two, two-year traineeships each year between each of the wineries.
The Concordis Traineeship Scholarship is made from the Education Trust Account. The donations received into the Concordis Fund are invested and the income generated from the investment is gifted out in the form of a Scholarship. It is expected that local giving will continue to grow into the Concordis Traineeship so that this and other scholarships can be sustained into perpetuity.
